Random House, NY, 1934. First Edition, First Printing. The first authorized American printing of Ulysses. Good. Discoloration to cloth, wearing and torn on the ends of the spine. Some staining and discoloration to the cloth. Cracking along the edge of the title page where it meets the spine. There is a small amount of foxing, text block is in good condition.

James Joyce's struggle to have Ulysses published began after it had been serially published in the US in 1918 and banned under obscenity law. It was thus identified as contraband and burned in America for over a decade until the landmark obscenity court case United States v. One Book Called Ulysses in 1933 lifted the ban. The book was still banned in the UK until 1936.
